“Noirci Studio started with my paintings and a garage full of shipping boxes. It's bigger than me now, and that was always the point.”
Lawrence has painted since 2006. From the start the work was aimed at real homes rather than gallery walls, canvases priced so the families they were painted for could actually own them. The catalog reads accordingly. It's less a gallery than a family album that happens to be painted at museum scale.
The Harlem Renaissance canvases are the spine of the collection. Lady Day and First Lady hold the stage while The Set fills the room behind them, and around that spine the heritage works widen the frame. Homestead. Pure Joy. Crowned. One legendary decade opens into a whole lineage.
